After nearly two decades in Britain, Bill Bryson took the decision to move back to the States for a while, to let his kids experience life in another country, to give his wife the chance to shop until 10 p.m. seven nights a week, and, most of all, because he had read the 3.7 million Americans believed that they had been abducted by aliens at one time or another, and it was thus clear to him that his people needed him. But before leaving his much-loved home in North Yorkshire, Bryson insisted on taking one last trip around Britain, a sort of valedictory tour of the green and kindly island that had so long been his home. 怎麼說呢，對這本書我有著復雜的感情。它讓我平淡的生活平添瞭很多笑聲，也讓我收獲瞭在讀書時和我共處一室的人們的異樣眼光，更要命的是，我眼角的細紋仿佛又增加瞭幾條，雖然我已經盡量按住眼角大笑，但有時爆發式的大笑是那麼猝不及防，根本來不及保護我可憐的眼角瞭。也...

英文版在Kindle裏囤瞭多少年瞭沒開動，鳳凰版的中文版忽然到手瞭，纔讀瞭幾章就覺得翻譯得很不錯啊，雖然豆瓣評分居然低得匪夷所思。譯者的用詞傳神地體現瞭英式黑色幽默，各種細節處的諷刺和揶揄，每一個熱愛英劇or英式自黑的人都能體會吧～比如剛剛讀到的這一段，恨不得每...

好吧我承認我想看這書的動機不良，抱著找萌的心態去的（自動米英帶入），確實找到瞭一點，不過那些個又長又難記的地名還是饒瞭我吧。如果多描寫點這個鬍子跟當地人交往（或者說吵架）的細節的話，我想會更喜歡。

還是Bill Bryson一貫很“損”的嘴，然而字裏行間還是對這個生活瞭近20年的國傢的感情。

2018-09: They say great artists are willing to give. Good writer too. Bryson is fun to read partly because he doesn't hide those embarrassing moments or those nasty thoughts of his. But this note is too long for the readers to keep the mood high to the end. He should have ended it at page 252, not 352, so no one would get exhausted and sad.
