Though the family lives in a little log house in the Big Woods, it is very snug. Pa hunts for beasts at day and play fiddles for his Children at night. Ma makes delicious syrup, pumpkin pies, Johnny's cake, etc for the family and keep knitting beside the hearth. Sometimes Lara and Mary are naughty, but both of them love baby Carrie.

讀Lonely Planet時看到介紹位於Pepin的Laura故居博物館，於是纔知道這一係列書。那時候的美國人真是heavy duty啊，爸爸一個人能乾那麼多事，打獵砍樹不在話下，甚至能徒手蓋小木屋，媽媽要協助爸爸還要照顧小朋友……太牛逼瞭……
