拜雅特（A.S.Byatt），英國當代著名作傢，1936年8月24日齣生於英國謝菲爾德，1957年在劍橋大學獲學士學位，經過兩年研究生生活後，在倫敦大學教授英美文學。1983年，拜雅特辭去高級教師職位，專心緻力於文學創作，同年成為英國皇傢文學協會會員、1990年獲頒大英帝國司令勛童（CBE）。

拜雅特主要有長篇小說《太陽的陰影》（1964）、《遊戲》（1968）、《庭院少女》（1978）、《平靜的生活》（1985），以及中短篇小說集《夜鶯之眼》等。、她的作品因處於大眾閱讀和嚴肅閱讀之間，常常引起評論界和讀者的劇烈爭論。但是，因其文學功底的博大精深、作品架構的宏闊氣魄、情節的奇絕、文字的精巧，又常常令人驚嘆之餘，紛紛放棄爭論，1990年，《隱之書》橫空齣世，一掃歐美文壇多年的沉寂與呆闆，引起巨大轟動，半年後該書獲英文小說最高榮譽布剋奬。
