前半本書基本是炒reason and rheteric的冷飯，第七章基本是republican liberty，後半本書討論英國內戰後的意識形態背景，多少還算有點意思。搞笑的是，斯金納自己最後得齣結論說，霍布斯的貢獻不在於他的立場，而在於他基於自然人性來論證這個立場，完全摒棄瞭神意論證的方式，然後，就沒有然後瞭……把霍布斯歸於de fecto派，未免太小看他瞭。
