补标。Primitive派的代表，启huo迪hai了一代人、开启了无数争论的作品。货币观念局限于铸币体系，商业受伦理、社群、政治的影响和拘束没有现代经济的发展。今天看来，虽然大多数论述是学术史意义高于学术意义了，但想要进入古代经济史宏观的讨论，本书仍是必读之作。

重读，总之就是对ancient economy持primitive观点的，认为古希腊罗马无现代“经济“的概念，就算有commercial activities, 包括会涉及interest的，也不是为了和现在一样投资盈利更几乎不受保护（除upper class），还不被当时的ethos接受……等等。Slavery一章中和labour的关系之前没重视，这次竟然觉得格外有意思。其他观点在后来的各种文献中都多有提及，或反驳或反驳……不一一赘述了。
