1928年出生于匈牙利，二次大战期间他和家人都被纳粹送往集中营，父母和小妹死于集中营中，只有他和两位姊姊侥幸生还。战后他在法国孤儿院生活了几年，于巴黎索邦大学完成学业。

《夜》是他的第一本著作，也是最重要的一本。他关心犹太人与其他同样受迫害族群的处境，呼吁世人谴责暴力与仇恨， 1985年美国总统里根授予他国会金质勋章，1992年老布什总统授予他总统自由勋章， 1986年获得诺贝尔和平奖。入选《时代》杂志全球100位最有影响力人士。

趁着夜色降临前看完，心里很不舒服。我不指望谁能明白为什么我不敢晚上一个人看这本书，有些人视角客观，思维缜密，但你们没有同理心，不代表我没有。
