Rudolf Wittkower was Durning-Lawrence Professor of the History of Art at the University of London, chairman of the department of art history and archaeology at Columbia University, Kress Professor at the National Gallery, Washington, and Slade Professor at Cambridge. Jennifer Montagu was for many years the curator of the Photographic Collection at the Warburg Institute, University of London. Joseph Connors is professor of art history and archaeology at Columbia University. John Pinto is Howard Crosby Butler Memorial Professor, department of art history and archaeology, Princeton University.

This classic survey of Italian Baroque art and architecture focuses on the arts in every center between Venice and Sicily in the early, high, and late Baroque periods. The heart of the study, however, lies in the architecture and sculpture of the exhilarating years of Roman High Baroque, when Bernini, Borromini, and Cortona were all at work under a series of enlightened popes. Wittkower’s text is now accompanied by a critical introduction and substantial new bibliography. This edition—now published in three volumes—will also include color illustrations for the first time.

哇……忽然感覺這書好貴哇，卓越居然賣900多塊！幸好有圖書館，否則……

隻讀瞭建築部分。從Bernini，Borromini，Pietro da Cortona，到Guarini和Juvarra，這時的意大利建築正在經曆幾乎是最後的輝煌。教授說should read Wittkower，讀瞭發現他寫書寫得太好，但有些詞匯語法句式都寫齣瞭花的句子真的讓我頭痛。
