“……returning us again to the mad behavior of nearly everyone in Twelfth Night.” 除去Feste（也同樣參與瞭對馬福裏奧的戲弄），幾乎人人都處於一種過分（excess）的瘋狂與妄念之中。本劇與《哈姆雷特》創作於同一時期，幾乎以喜劇形式傳達悲劇性，抑或這本就是馬福裏奧的悲劇；而實際上幾乎劇中每個人都似乎本有成為馬福裏奧的可能。 反復閱讀幾次後，隱約明白瞭為什麼哈羅德•布魯姆對薇奧拉評價較低，或許是與光彩奪目的羅瑟琳相比，善意有餘，機智不足，並不能主動將“善意”轉化為“善行”，也無法主動地推動事態朝美好願望發展，而隻能被動地接受命運巧閤的安排。
