Euphoria

Lily King grew up in Manchester, Massachusetts. She received her B.A. in English Literature f rom University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her M.A. in Creative Writing from Syracuse University. She has taught English and Creative Writing at several universities and high schools in this country and abroad.Lily's first novel, THE PLEASING HOUR (1999) won the Barnes and Noble Discover Award and was a New York Times Notable Book and an alternate for the PEN/Hemingway Award. Her second, THE ENGLISH TEACHER, was a Publishers Weekly Top Ten Book of the Year, a Chicago Tribune Best Book of the Year, and the winner of the Maine Fiction Award. FATHER OF THE RAIN, her third novel, was published in July, 2010. A few weeks after publication, it won the New England Book Award for Fiction. It is a New York Times Editor's Choice, an Amazon Best Book of the Month, an Indie Next Selection, and on O the Oprah Magazine's 2010 Summer Reading List.Lily is the recipient of a MacDowell Fellowship and a Whiting Award. Her short fiction has appeared in literary magazines including Ploughshares and Glimmer Train, as well as in several anthologies.

关于这本书，老实说刚开始看的时候没看进去，后面慢慢进入情节的。主要讲述的是三个人类学家，一对夫妻和一个单身汉，在部落里收集信息，研究原始部落文化的事。除了被他们在学术上的专注所动容，还感慨三个人的感情。书中也把三个人的性格刻画得很鲜明。 我记得内尔在跟班克森...

有点颠覆三观。看到最后深深被书里的情绪感染。

Much better than many best-sellers（esp. campus novels）,esp. with the primitive life aspects. Plus I have predicted the affair from the very beginning. Oh,the ending made me a little blue.

別人問我人類學是什麼的時候我不會叫他們去讀Euphoria 但我看到一個outsider/a fan of Margaret Mead’s theories 去了解學者和學者的personal lives之間關係的努力when she wrote, in Mead’s voice, that she puts herself in her ethnographic notes cuz she wants to remember the feeling of sitting and being with the native ppl so that she may recall things she did not think important enough to write down.
