Marcon是曆史圈為數不多真正喜歡critical theory的，在普大還專門教過Horkheimer/Adorno的課。這本書文本紮實，敘述流暢，將知識史、政治史、文化史結閤起來得很精美，不過因為強調secularization總讓人覺得有些teleology的影子（雖說在22/23頁否定瞭teleology）。建議和Josephson Storm那本The Invention of Religion in Japan的一起看。

well organized and beautifully written。不過是不是占瞭英語圈沒有類似主題著作的便宜感覺主要是匯總瞭日本材料。。。做入門參考不錯

非常優雅而遊刃有餘的科學史著作，突齣瞭日本本草學曆史的復雜性，而且利用阿多諾的理論來闡述有一種畫龍點睛的效果。
