前美国联邦储备委员会主席。2009年《时代》杂志 “年度风云人物”，连续三年入选福布斯全球人物权势榜前十（2011~2013年），执掌美联储8年，成功带领美国度过大萧条以来最恶劣的经济危机。

2002年被美国总统小布什任命为美联储理事。2005年6月，担任美国总统经济顾问委员会主席。10月被任命为下任美国联邦储备委员会主席。伯南克是知名的宏观经济学家，主要研究兴趣是货币政策和宏观经济史。他是美国艺术与科学学院院士和计量经济学会会士。曾编著《宏观经济学原理》、《微观经济学原理》等教材。 2014年2月，伯南克加盟布鲁金斯学会，参与经济研究项目，重点关注经济复苏政策。

这是第三本读完的描写08金融危机的大部头。不同于Andrew Sorkin那本剑拔弩张颇有电影剧本感觉的Too Big To Fail，也和Hank Paulson字里行间洗白白的自传有不同风格，前联储主席Bernanke的这本回忆录从他上任一直讲到危机后联储为经济复苏做的各种努力，细节翔实易懂，不妄加褒贬(除了某些政客)不带感情色彩。

因为种种原因，书里没有很多料。即使是如此，这也是我好久以来读过的最好的惊悚读物，拿上手了就完全放不下。或许是因为我回忆起了好多年前那个在金融风暴的边缘颤抖着的小小金融从业者……

五星力荐，伯南克把他在危机时刻中每一项决策的思路、过程与行动都作了详尽的记叙和反思，读完收获很大，值得一读，是理解货币政策和金融危机的重要资料。当然，想要看阴谋论和邪恶美帝金融战争内幕的自然要失望了，书中能看到的只是一个技术官僚应对危机的艰难过程。
