失望薄薄的参考文献还不如古代史理论框架和史料运用也比较一般难道就是北美因为最近没人研究革命和士绅了？真不明白书后面那些endorsement是根据什么写出来的

这是一部很有诚意并且十分严谨的近代史著作。看得出作者的文笔并不老辣，再加之是个老题目，所以第一次读时的阅读体验并不好。许多有创造性的想法都散落在书的角落里，并不集中。但是读后再想想，就可以发现作者的抱负以及这部著作的独特贡献。作者的视野以及角度都是和就四川论四川的地方史完全不同的，材料和论点上也远远超出了地方史的范畴。作者关注的是以主权在民为核心的政治话语是如何形成的这一问题：它的概念起源是什么、它的传播途径是什么、它在具体的运动普及中到达了哪一层次，以及这种新的政治文化对整个二十世纪中国革命的意义。主权在民的政治正当性的建立是一个重要的范式变化，之后的人民当家做主都必须要在这一基础上才能建立。政治运动中的概念从来就不深刻，也不应当求深刻，关键是要准确明白地把握住这些革命中流淌的活的思想。
