這本書不長哈，有點像通識讀物，不過大概因為視角的關係（“隻緣身在此山中”）、曆史的模糊，縱使日常在使用普通話也會發現自己不知道很多事。比較驚訝的是原來還有人曾在中國曆史上提倡過用世界語，又及，讀瞭這本書之後簡繁體中文英文裏叫Simplified和Traditional Chinese的原因終於特彆明晰瞭。以前總是隻是模糊地猜想著，也沒有去問過。整本書的話，固然是有點意思，不過短也是短，簡單也是簡單的，留下印象的隻是一些原來就知道的大框架裏的細節，沒有什麼迴甘。update: 又全又有足夠多細節，隻是母語者讀完可能會比較空虛一點，但也因為是母語者能在生活中時時迴想起書裏的內容，覺得很有道理。

短小精悍的一本書。作者David Moser就是早年在央視主持過希望之星英文比賽的莫大偉。語言學方麵是淺顯通俗，用例生動，同時兼顧曆史文化背景，是本不錯的小書。
