想了解当今中东乱局的来龙去脉，且只有时间读一本书，那必须就是这本了。不长的篇幅里，作者娴熟地交织叙述了中东问题的历史成因和发展，以及六个背景迥异的人物在这乱世中的经历。读这些人物故事，令我感触最深的是，中东地区的普通人与我们并无本质上不同，伊斯兰原教旨主义也是大部分人所排斥的；中东地区的大城市如Tripoli, Homs, Damascus, Cairo 也与其它地区的大城市一样包容多元文化。其次，我个人认为美英法最应当承担接受难民的责任。一战后英法在中东地区不合理地分割、挑拨部族争斗埋下祸根在先，后有美国在中东政策上的一再失误，而上周，又新添一笔历史将铭记的大错。最后，建议用最短时间读完本书，四国六人的故事交织，阅读间歇太长容易搞混。不过，这样一本生动易读的好书，翻开就很难合上了吧。
