當代“馬剋思學”的學者聲稱自己注重實證的、價值中立的方法，而他們在研究馬恩學術關係這個馬剋思學的“標準問題”時卻暴露齣他們的無賴麵目和極力掩藏的政治目的。一些有意無意的無端質疑也就罷瞭(舉兩個例子:在Chapter 6中，Carver不斷通過馬剋思的給恩格斯的復信長度“不夠”與迴應次數少——其實他還漏掉瞭馬剋思為恩格斯的自然辯證法寫作藉書一事——暗示馬剋思對恩格斯的研究漠不關心，還認為恩格斯將《反杜林論》念給馬剋思聽的說法是“孤證不立”，直接將《反杜林論》當做純粹的“恩格斯思想”加以界說)，到後麵直接對恩格斯進行人身攻擊，說他由於沒有接受係統的專業哲學訓練纔會“趕時髦”創製無聊的唯物主義形而上學。說實話，如此獨斷而粗糙的、充滿精英主義優越氣息的論證，是不可能作為一門“科學”的。
