Author Biography

Aravind Adiga was born in Madras in 1974 and was raised partly in Australia. He studied at Columbia and Oxford Universities. A former correspondent in India for TIME magazine, his articles have also appeared in publications like The Financial Times, The Independent, and The Sunday Times. He lives in Mumbai.

贯穿全文的rooster coop，由种姓制度主导下的一套社会规则，人们不得不自发地去服从它。Balram被这套规则束缚，受master的束缚，受家庭规则的束缚（主要来自Granny逼他结婚逼他寄钱等），最后把老板杀了以此来报复家庭。我的一位老师去印度做研究的时候，知道这么一件事：一对恋人私奔被抓了回来，女方家里面为了使自己种姓不因为流言而下降，家族秘密地弄死了这个女子。（一系列的事情都可以在种姓制度里面找到原因）书虽然有些偏激，但确实反映了不少奇怪的事实：Balram没有名字，父母不记得其生日，名字和生日都是由别人随便给予的；印度的仆人为主人顶罪便是好仆人（可以猜想大爆炸里的Raj一家的出生在印度是首陀罗吧？）；印度的民主从某种程度上来说真是虚假的民主。。明年我将去印度，期待一下。
