The Myth of the Rational Voter

布赖恩·卡普兰，1997年毕业于普林斯顿大学，获经济学博士学位。现为美国乔治·梅森大学经济系教授，卡托研究所兼职研究员。他所在的乔治梅森大学的公共选择研究因布凯南获得诺贝尔经济奖而成为这一领域的重要阵地。他的主要研究领域包括公共经济学、公共选择、心理学与经济学、家庭经济学等，曾在《美国经济评论》、《经济学杂志》、《公共选择》、《法律与经济学杂志》、《社会科学季刊》等学术期刊发表文章。本书是他的第一部学术专著，也是他的成名作。本书于2007年在普林斯顿大学出版社出版后，被英国《金融时报》评为“2007年度最佳图书（政治类）”，并获2008年独立出版社图书奖银奖。卡普兰本人也因为这本书而在美国声名鹊起，在本书出版之后不久便晋升为教授，而那时他还不到40岁。
