Satorie的那篇关于政治学的概念问题的论文，大概是他最有影响力的一篇。概念的抽象度是不一样的，从不可直接测度的概念，发展出可以测度的概念，然后操作化，是社会科学的一般研究规律。不过，Satorie并没有讨论概念和概念之间的优劣性的分别（事实上社会科学的历史上有很多被淘汰的概念，例如政治文化的概念明显好于国民性，虽然两者都不可直接测度），而且如何理解从不可测度的抽象型概念发展成可测度的概念类型，且保持内在的效度不变，如何理解概念和概念之间的联系，也是很重要的问题。后续的Collier等人发展的所谓家族类似性的问题，也多少是有启发意义，但是仍旧是“case by case”的层面上。而且就概念的规范意义，实证意义和Positive的理论含义的层面，也很少讨论。相较经验研究，这种研究还是薄弱的
