參照做爲統帥Slim的defeat into victory，講的全局戰事，本書作者當時是個十九歲士兵，不知整體戰局的情況，有時連自己具體的行動目地，所處地點，屬於哪支部隊都不清楚。很個人的感受，而且作者幾十年後的回憶，沒假爲政治正確，對自己與其他同袍對敵人、廣島，以及今日對戰爭和戰爭參與者的看法直言不諱，特別是後半部分，很好看。
