After previous careers in physics and software development, Philipp K. Janert currently provides consulting services for data analysis, algorithm development, and mathematical modeling. He has worked for small start-ups and in large corporate environments, both in the U.S. and overseas. He prefers simple solutions that work to complicated ones that don't, and thinks that purpose is more important than process. Philipp is the author of "Gnuplot in Action - Understanding Data with Graphs" (Manning Publications), and has written for the O'Reilly Network, IBM developerWorks, and IEEE Software. He is named inventor on a handful of patents, and is an occasional contributor to CPAN. He holds a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Washington. 不得不說本書的翻譯不敢讓人恭維。拿到書後粗略翻瞭翻，翻譯的水平勉強達到“信達雅”中的“信”吧，我想這本書應該是導師交給學生翻譯的。不過買之前我已經做好心理準備：一來這個是技術書，不求文字的華麗；二來我已經有pdf的電子版，買這本中文版的目的是加快閱讀。所以，...

這本書的主要內容是“數據分析”，而且講解明顯不夠透徹，有泛泛之嫌，總評B+，難度A，推薦指數B(SABC分級) 內容尚且如此，翻譯啥的就不重要瞭，不過倒不是翻譯的特彆爛，應該說不會有明顯倒胃口的情況

Author keeps placing emphasis on insights instead of numbers while working with data. The ultimate goal of data analysis is to understand how the system works, not to show off how proficient you are at Math. That's the true spirit of professionalism.
