扉页有两张插图，一张是狄更斯的oliver twist 另一张是简.奥斯丁的诺桑觉寺。仿佛英国文学的宫殿的两站桃符门神。缓缓推开英国（英语）文学的沉重大门。内容语带戏谑却充满善意，时时让人莞尔。但是书中每个条目的梗概性介绍不详细，更适合出于兴趣阅读的读者，对于做参考书有点不妥。已经对英语文学有所涉猎的话才会有慧心灵犀的感觉。当然，如果只是希望通过此书了解不同英语文学文体风格，是很好的。很多条目，都有原文节录。比如：亚当贝德的条目就会有原文的第一章。以了解乔治艾略特风格。是一本好书啊。
