In the final pages, he writes of Hadley, “I wished I had died before I ever loved anyone but her.” That line, and his portrayal of their marriage -- so tender and poignant and steeped in regret -- inspired me to search out biographies of Hadley, and then to research their brief and intense courtship and letters -- they wrote hundreds and hundreds of pages of delicious pages to another!

I couldn’t help but fall in love with Hadley, and through her eyes, with the young Ernest Hemingway. He was just twenty when they met, handsome and magnetic, passionate and sensitive and full of dreams. I was surprised at how much I liked and admired him -- and before I knew it, I was entirely swept away by their gripping love story.

一本人物传记小说,虽然作者强调说尽量依据事实进行创作,但仍然多多少少觉得有点太过软了.我本身对海明威有点成见,一是他在作家圈风评不好,二是参观key west故居时也听了不少rumour.不过倒的确是这种比较“作”的drama个性和人生才可能孕育着一个能写好作品的作家吧.据说这本书也可以看作是hadley视觉的《流动的盛宴》.总体来说,作者语言风格我没有很喜欢,有点太絮叨太婆妈,里面出现了无数认识的不认识的人物,多数也是让我咬牙切齿,特别是一度憎恨海明威到一个点.不过冷静一下想想,倒觉得this is life.还是多多少少有点感触的,特别是作为一个女人.不过还是不得不说,最喜欢的一个场景是菲茨杰拉德和他老婆zelda的出场,还在great gatsby出版前,想象一下那个画面都觉得像梦.
