There is nowhere else in the world quite like Chungking Mansions, a dilapidated seventeen-story commercial and residential structure in the heart of Hong Kong’s tourist district. 总的来说，感觉像一篇巨型的专栏文章，理论意涵弱得很，不知道问什么中英文版的评分都那么高。全书分“地人物法”四个部分，很malinowskian，虽然表面上恰恰在强调重庆大厦的全球／多点联系。另一方面，文笔很好，对neoliberalism的温和同情也算是对几乎已经演变成hegemonic discourse的左翼叙事的反抗。

应该是读完的第一本人类学专著……重庆大厦之于香港应该是一个他者，但也许也只有香港这片神奇的土地上才能有重庆大厦这样神奇的存在，一个全球化浪潮之中小小的暗流……讲大厦里各色人等的文化认同那段真是感人至深，他们是来自第三世界的中产者，在有着更多中产者挣扎生存的发达城市里挣扎生存——于是我的感想是千万不能留下来。

真希望八十年代时能去看看。这个群体很容易被大众、媒体污名化，而他们却无从为自己辩解。而即使是大部分在异国他乡打拼的他们，似乎也要比被赶出帝都的北漂们幸运得多。
