道格·桑德斯 (Doug Saunders)

在对《美国大城市的死与生》作者雅各布斯(Jane Jacobs)的一次采访后，桑德斯萌生了撰写一部记录人口迁徙、尤其是农村到城市人口迁徙的著作的想法。从2007年开始，桑德斯开始了一场全球之旅，从欧洲出发，到印度次大陆、中国和北美，深入接触包括来自肯尼亚和里约热内卢的底层平民，足迹遍布五大洲数十个国家和地区，最终完成本书。桑德斯现居英国伦敦。
