Julian Patrick Barnes is a contemporary English writer of postmodernism in literature. He has been shortlisted three times for the Man Booker Prize--- Flaubert's Parrot (1984), England, England (1998), and Arthur & George (2005), and won the prize for The Sense of an Ending (2011). He has written crime fiction under the pseudonym Dan Kavanagh.

Following an education at the City of London School and Merton College, Oxford, he worked as a lexicographer for the Oxford English Dictionary. Subsequently, he worked as a literary editor and film critic. He now writes full-time. His brother, Jonathan Barnes, is a philosopher specialized in Ancient Philosophy.

He lived in London with his wife, the literary agent Pat Kavanagh, until her death on 20 October 2008.

真动人，读完就不会总惦记冬天要去中央公园看鸭子了。

有很多反思性的东西在里面。需要集中精力才能跟上作者在表达什么。情节性不强，但值得回过头再去仔细地读。

听闻改编成电影了于是把这本呆在我长长长长的待读列表许久的书借来看了。读了几十页我就有点后悔，这可能是一本获奖的流水账，撑过去到后面突然exciting起来（rollercoaster indeed）（当然聪明的读者已经发现了什么）。作为一个unreliable narrator来说tony真的是太average了（therefore relatable）但又有点说不上来的可爱。总的来讲是比较有意思但不是很有意思的小说。另外我要质问一下作者为什么要abuse “corroboration”……翻两页就能碰见强行背单词orz

语言不错，叙事抓人，但格局略小（导致我电影不想看了）。把一个度过平庸人生的老年人的心理描写得很生动，和生命中两个女人的互动写得好精彩，男人啊，怎么一把年纪还能这么幼稚？结局震惊，但是太过戏剧化以至于影响了我对此书的评价。

Emmm…… 文字比较平实，容易读，有点絮絮叨叨，更多像是在灌鸡汤，格局很小，想写人生可是写得不是很合我心意。结局狗血。
