Manuel Castells (Spanish: Manuel Castells Oliván; born 1942) is a Spanish sociologist especially associated with research on the information society, communication and globalization.
The 2000–09 research survey of the Social Sciences Citation Index ranks him as the world’s fifth most-cited social science scholar, and the foremost-cited communication scholar.
He was awarded the 2012 Holberg Prize,for having "shaped our understanding of the political dynamics of urban and global economies in the network society."

和Castells大部分著作一樣,框架宏大,細節論述不夠深入,但民族國傢衰弱及其影響的論述還不錯,比較重要的是三種identity的劃分,identity對social movement的implications。專業必讀但略微枯燥。

評分三星半。踩時興熱點包裝齣爐的書。全球化網絡社會民族國傢的衰落社運的新特徵等等。稍微有點意思的是用identity的視角看社運,提齣resistance identity/project identity,可以順著這個思路去想一種反抗式的(reactive)的運動是否有擴展civil society的可能性。但就自身的敘述來說,分析層次上非常弱,貼標簽拼湊的感覺很強。智識上不深厚經驗上不紮實。
評分作者意思很明白 無法逆轉的全球化背景下 曆史和地域共同體失去瞭其凝聚力 相應的民族國傢瓦解 以原教旨主義 女權主義等重申身份的團體興起 通過社運重構世界 但是這書太長太碎 論述完全沒什麼說服力甚至牽強 看完之後隻記得奧姆真理教 下學期論文怎麼辦啊...
評分這本和其姐妹篇 The Rise of the Network Society 一樣,是本和”讀著玩“相反的書。它十分重要非常重要,以緻甚至應該擁有一本。但擁有的原因隻因為它重要而不在於它生動好玩。專業之內興趣之外吧。屬於那種需要時查特定章節,其他的不會多看那種。
