Pearl S. Buck's epic Pulitzer Prize-winning novel of a China that was -- now in a Contemporary Classics edition.
Though more than sixty years have passed since this remarkable novel won the Pulitzer Prize, it has retained its popularity and become one of the great modern classics. no wonder this one can won the big award on Nobel and Pulitzer. It's written by a woman that live in China for very long time, a "local" foreigner, this story is so true and sometimes is so sad. It reflects some history of China as Wang Lung's life move on. I was so sad when I read Wang Lung get the Lotus to his house and when O-lan died.
評分An insipid storyline with ugly taints of unrealistic, nerve-racking theatrical languages. The language just reeks fetishism. But the characters are well constructed, and that compensates for stylistic shortcomings.
