彼得•海斯勒(Peter Hessler)，中文名何偉，曾任《紐約客》駐北京記者，以及《國傢地理》雜誌等媒體的撰稿人。

他成長於美國密蘇裏州的哥倫比亞市，在普林斯頓主修英文和寫作，並取得牛津大學英語文學碩士學位。海斯勒曾自助旅遊歐洲三十國，畢業後更從布拉格齣發，由水陸兩路橫越俄國、中國到泰國，跑完半個地球，也由此開啓瞭他的旅遊文學寫作之路。

海斯勒散見於各大雜誌的旅遊文學作品，數度獲得美國最佳旅遊寫作奬。他的中國紀實三部麯中，《江城》一經推齣即獲得“Kiriyama環太平洋圖書奬”，《甲骨文》則榮獲《時代周刊》年度最佳亞洲圖書等殊榮。海斯勒本人亦被《華爾街日報》贊為“關注現代中國的最具思想性的西方作傢之一”。

當我在看過《尋路中國》、《江城》和《甲骨文》，得知何偉已經離開中國前往埃及之後，我以為再也不會看到何偉齣版任何有關中國的書籍時，《奇石》悄無聲息的在今年齣版瞭。說實話，我很期待這部作品，畢竟能像何偉這樣深刻理解中國的人不多，包括土生土長的中國人都往往捉摸...

想說其實不是這本書，不過還是得先誇一下何偉。這位老師的觀察力足夠齣眾，很擅長把一些看似雜亂的東西塞到一起，再用一個若隱若現的主綫把這些碎片巧妙的聯係到一起，不時升華一下他記錄這些東西的所謂動機，不過都很剋製，沒有流於煽情。總之他寫的東西大多都算的上有趣。然...

有些內容與之前的作品重復，有兩三篇不怎麼感興趣。

看瞭一半，我覺得就前兩篇吃老鼠肉和菊兒鬍同寫的不錯，後麵沒啥意思，而且強烈感覺部分的篇目或是的的文章的部分片段在甲骨文裏麵齣現過
