伍尔夫的理想读者是一个普通读者，卡尔维诺延伸了这个普通读者的定义，像这本小说中的女主角一样，ta一直在追求未被讲述的故事，而作者和文本本身都不重要。同时，当读者阅读一本书时，故事的开头已经能引发全部的想象，而我们作为读者每次重读一本书，它都变成了另一本不同的书；每次阅读一本新书，似乎又都是出自那一本书。这样来说，书中11篇小说的开头却都不过是同一本书，而这本if on a winter's night a traveler又是包含了所有故事所有想象的那一本书。非常非常棒！！
