題目我翻譯為“史之用與史之弊”。 課上犯睏。講到monumental, antiquarian, critical三種史觀，分彆是從三種心理（？）得來。美國同學問“為什麼生命要preserve”。我想起瞭中國傳統文化中比比皆是的例子，卻不知道如何迴答。 我想成為曆史學者，這近似第三種史觀；其中一個原因是我記憶與記錄的本能，這又近似於第一種史觀；中國傳統有很多第二種史觀的東西，因其曆史悠久也有第一種史觀。尼采持一種進步的觀點，如果原地踏步等於沒有在生活，而三種曆史觀都是為真正的生活服務，三種過量都要不得。

Too much history ruins instinct for life. The horizon should be limited; illusion is necessary to hold up to values and avoid annihilation. Life is higher than knowledge; any klg that destroys life destroys itself at last. No laws in history; reflect on genuine needs and organize the chaos within us to create a culture - a new and improved nature.

Nietzsche is all about vitality, that's why I like him. Nevertheless, quite of bit of this book is very difficult without context, which means it's not the best place to start.
