本来还觉得只读了四分之一就标看过有点不好意思转念一想其实只要看完课文就可以标看过了于是毫不迟疑其实如果不是课文应该得分更高的看在这本书当时掀起如此轩然大波拥有五花八门的封面的份上

几十年前，Rachel Carson关于为何不应使用DDT的书。书一出来，即遭到DDT生产厂家的攻击。更糟糕的是，因为后来禁止使用DDT，蚊虫没有被消灭掉，导致非洲等地疟疾数量迅速上升。因此反对者们谩骂Carson谋杀了比希特勒还多的人。于是，2002年，联合国又部分开放DDT的使用，以应对疟疾。但是，接着也有环保主义者指出，应该采取生态方法控制蚊虫，而不是DDT。因为如果大量使用DDT，蚊虫会产生抗药性，甚至更加肆虐。——这是一个非常值得探讨的问题。这本书的观念在今人看来，已经落后了，因为我们都知道不能大量使用杀虫剂，知道生态链的重要性。但在当时，是非常突破的一本书，且它的争论也尚未停息。作者文风非常讲究，甚至有点过于讲究，而不像科普读物。
