作者对古希腊悲剧、旧约神话、康德伦理学等内容的引入十分可疑；对巴塔耶、尼采、卢梭等人的援引流于表面；借助精神分析与女性主义的诠释则又难免落俗。总之要了解萨德根本不用读这本书（直接用《闺房哲学》或其他文本来进入反倒更直接、清晰；进阶的研究，比如说，可以直接读作者反复引用的Angela Carter）。部分问题见读书笔记，总的来说只是（阅读量较广的）本科生水平（可能还是低年级本科生）。
