有人钟情，出了阁，生活下去。 南与北的一开篇，便引了这么一阙小诗，短小而隽永，如含青橄榄，略涩却回味悠长，入口的瞬间就记住了那个滋味。 以诗为引并非新鲜的写法，但难得的是所引诗歌的质量，盖斯凯尔夫人出手不俗，于是就这样读了下去。 然后，在许多章节，都遇上了令人...  

故事发生在英国的19世纪中期，在此之前，英国的南方是当时国家的经济主要来源，依靠农业的发展，大多数的权力、金钱都掌握在贵族和农庄主人手上。后来，随着女主玛格丽特从南方来到北方，从静谧的田园生活来到了工业化城市。英国的北方，是她从来不喜欢的地方，这里遍布了铜臭...
