尼科斯•卡赞扎基斯，二十世纪希腊最重要和最富争议的作家与诗人。

1883年2月18日出生在克里特岛的赫拉克利翁城。早年在雅典和巴黎学习法律。1919至1927年间供职于希腊政府。1938年发表史诗《奥德修续记》，探讨佛陀、基督、尼采等等先哲的世界观。代表作有长篇小说《希腊人左巴》（1946）、《基督的最后诱惑》（1953）、《自由或死亡》（1954）。还著有大量译著、剧本、游记和散文。

卡赞扎基斯热衷于周游世界，曾到过巴勒斯坦、日本和中国等很多遥远迷人的国度，并著有《中国纪行》等。1957年，卡赞扎基斯应邀访问中国，在归途中于10月26日因病逝世。

在希腊当代作家中，卡赞扎基斯是作品得到最多次翻译的宠儿，他的许多作品不仅拥有各种语言的版本在国际上发行，而且还被搬上舞台和电影。1964年，《希腊人左巴》由希腊导演迈克尔•柯杨尼斯改编为电影，获得三项奥斯卡金像奖：最佳女配角（莱拉•科卓瓦）、最佳美术指导和最佳摄影奖。

读一本alpha male narcissist 的书的时候作者推荐的这本 should have thought of it... 倒是喜欢这种premise，年轻人与老年人交谈得life story/life lessons, 但Zorba真的misogynistic 到时常读不下去，居然还问出is woman a human being 这种问题。。。
