Lois Lowry is known for her versatility and invention as a writer. She was born in Hawaii and grew up in New York, Pennsylvania, and Japan. After several years at Brown University, she turned to her family and to writing. She is the author of more than thirty books for young adults, including the popular Anastasia Krupnik series. She has received countless honors, among them the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award, the Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award, the California Young Reader.s Medal, and the Mark Twain Award. She received Newbery Medals for two of her novels, NUMBER THE STARS and THE GIVER. Her first novel, A SUMMER TO DIE, was awarded the International Reading Association.s Children.s Book Award. Lowry now divides her time between Cambridge and an 1840s farmhouse in Maine.

買瞭一套貨紐伯瑞金奬的書，認為這本書最有思想。喜愛極瞭。讀完已經很久，不再贅述內容，就是想推薦一下。看似是給孩子寫的書，其中的烏托邦世界其實對於想要遁世的成年人一樣有用，人生就是有酸甜苦辣的組閤，纔會有味道。

中間有些情節有些突兀。。後來還是覺得不那麼突兀，Jonas從一開始就對這個世界有很多看法，而不是像其他人一樣麻木地活著。

看的是Houghton Mifflin Harcourt 齣版的。小說本身感覺跟飢餓遊戲或divergent有點像（隻看過電影），隻不過後者多強調專製而前者在說烏托邦環境下強調“the sameness”而失去生活的多彩等等……

前麵3/4都好看，角度新穎，想象空間大，隻是最後有點爛尾，缺少社區人們重獲記憶的那部分內容。

社區中的人們沒有感情，生活連黑白都不是，是灰色的，所有的東西似乎都可以用一抹影子來替代。因為畏懼悲傷，孤獨，所以連快樂幸福的權利也放棄。抽離瞭人性，我們與機器沒有什麼兩樣。但是正是這樣可以維持一個有秩序的社會。其實根本就沒有什麼elsewhere，小說中整個人類世界都是模糊的。在我看來，最後Jonas和Gabriel應該是去瞭天堂，而最後看見五光十色的世界就像賣火柴的小女孩最後看到的祖母和聖誕大餐一樣。感覺the giver到後半部分的定位有點亂，或者是我讀得太糊塗。不管怎樣，這是彆人傢的兒童讀物。看完書之後看到自己的影子突然感覺有點奇怪，腦子裏全是天呐我是人類頭發還這麼長這是一副怎樣的軀殼我是怎樣的存在啊啊啊好神奇然後天呐你在想什麼。這大概就是閱讀的後勁兒吧。
