毫无疑问，这是我国际关系理论里面读到过最好的，我把他理解为系统分析国际关系的书籍。华尔兹，结构现实主义的奠基人，在他的博士论文，也就是这本书中从三个角度，人，国家机构，以及国际体系来详细剖析了战争的原因（而战争与和平是国际关系研究的中心），并且从这本书中对这三个层次的关系的探讨上，我们就可以看出华尔兹对结构，international system的强调。前两个层次都是所谓的immediate因素，而最后一个则是permissive因素。这本书，我最喜欢的就是作者对古今的战争哲学家的观点来了一次大汇总，将卢梭，霍布斯，康德，斯宾罗莎，摩根索，还有一些社会主义者对国际关系的观点分为三个层次，以及介绍了一系列诸如，社会行为学，社会主义还有自由贸易一系列重要的思想以及政策在三个层次的框架下考虑。
