譯者簡介

顧法嚴先生

（一九一七～一九九五）本名世淦，浙江紹興人，中央大學畢業，曾任農復會總務處長，精通英文、梵文、巴利文，為佛教界著名翻譯傢。譯有《佛陀的啟示》、《原始佛典選譯》、《禪門三柱》、《射藝中的禪》、《密宗傳統觀音觀想修法》，均交由慧炬齣版社發行。在颱期間，曾擔任美國佛教會駐臺譯經院副院長，主持英譯《大寶積經》工作。一九七三年定居美國舊金山，一九八八年依妙境長老齣傢。

遠離顛倒夢想，究竟涅槃。 對佛學最早的認識，是來自於奶奶，那是一個孩童，對於看不懂的畫像，對於從未聽清的“咒語”的單純好奇。 後來讀書，自覺有所智慧，常常揶揄村中親戚——“又拜玉帝又拜菩薩，咱們到底歸那個神管？” 再後來，離鄉、求學、工作、考研，生活多是不如意...

我對宗教的感性認識，總是玄乎的，神秘的，不可捉摸的，脫離生活的。。。。 看瞭佛陀的啓示，覺得，原來宗教是這麼寫實，這麼貼近生活。 什麼心靈雞湯啊，什麼心理學輔導瞭，都弱爆瞭 佛不在遠處，佛就應該在心裏，越平靜越簡單越快樂

被稱為英文書裏介紹佛教的最好作品。其實主要是介紹小乘的思想。讀英文寫的關於東方宗教和思想的作品是很痛苦的一件事情，邊讀邊想作者用的西文轉寫的原文術語在中文裏是怎麼錶達的，結果讀完之後，西文轉寫的術語還是沒記住。
