拉約什·埃格裏（Lajos Egri，1888－1967）生於原奧匈帝國的埃格（今匈牙利境內），十歲就寫齣瞭一部三幕劇。1908年，埃格裏移民美國。一戰期間，他加入紐約的左派戲劇組織，成為導演和劇作傢，後於20世紀30年代創立寫作學校。埃格裏同時也是一位新聞工作者，並曾撰寫過電視劇本。
