写的又清楚又好。Abbott在1988的划时代之作后，实际上把profession研究带入了一个去历史、脱嵌于政治经济过程的新风尚，也促成了职业社会学逐渐与知识社会学合流，个中得失，一言难尽。重新回头读这本遗珠，可见profession不仅与相邻的职业在jurisdictional power上竞争，也和其他的social agents竞争，比如资本、公卫、互助社、保险公司，从而画中一块边界不断变更的社会领域。所以历史社会学是必须要回到职业研究中来的，尽管专家的好时代已经过去了。
