如何构建一个好研究问题。面对这个困惑从本科到博士的重大难题，作者介绍当下流行的gap-spotting方法，并提出这方法虽然常见（学术圈规则原因）但是并不一定新颖有趣，更不一定带来好理论，他们推崇的是problematization的方法，即不停留在现有文献空白中插一脚，而是挑战已有理论假设。本书对研究问题重要性，好的研究问题特征以及spot gap策略的总结很值得一看，极其适合本科和硕士课程论文的构思。但问题就是好的研究问题定义为理论贡献，并且主要构建研究问题的思路都是基于现有文献现有理论，现实关照度仅在最后一章最后几页被提及。当然也有可能作者把realist和positivist视角只看做讨论范畴中的一部分所致。
