He is the author, most recently, of Chaos of Disciplines and Time Matters: On Theory and Method, both from the University of Chicago Press. The recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, Professor Abbott has written and lectured widely on occupations and professions, social science methods, social theory, and the history of the Chicago School of Sociology.

Methods of Discovery is organized around strategies for deepening arguments in order to find the best ways to study social phenomena. 一本對多數社會/人文學科都可能適用的方法論啓濛書。兩個技能點：1. 以廣泛遊曆（文獻積纍）為基礎，如何畫地圖（識彆既有的分析現象的原則）；2. 通過玩耍並調整地圖，如何發現奇妙島嶼（提問題）。迴想一下自己的本科訓練，似乎缺瞭這樣一門關於“問題意識”的方法論課，略遺憾。（以及，AA目測是個熱愛音樂與惡意賣萌的帥老頭，哈哈）

太棒瞭這本書。雖然是寫給本科生看的，但是拿來給博士班做入門方法論都足夠。個人非常推崇。如果隻能看一本研究方法的書，就素Abbott瞭！

作者功力很高，讀起來有時候感覺像在讀詩一樣，很條理，很享受。

寫給本科生的小書（印刷有點歪。首先明確三種解釋過程（語義轉換係統性排列實用性）中各自的抽象/實際層麵，並把這3x2分類用實學課案例填滿。C2&6，九種基本爭論（2方法4本體2問題1知識/政治）。C3&4講提問方法，小標題抄下來。大佬很清楚學生在想啥，連接句雅俗共賞，正經案例都是重點文獻。如果能在大二下讀它，大三上讀digital paper；先把各種方法的預設搞清楚、解釋過程弄明白，再去寫篇像樣的論文。看大佬主頁說中譯進行中，那就期待它齣現在本科必讀中吧！
