西尔维娅•普拉斯（Sylvia Plath，1932—1963）

继艾米莉•狄金森和伊丽莎白•毕肖普之后最重要的美国女诗人。

出生于美国麻萨诸塞州的波士顿地区。1955年，普拉斯以优异成绩毕业于著名的史密斯女子学院，之后获得富布赖特奖学金去英国剑桥大学深造，并在那里遇到了后来成为桂冠诗人的特德•休斯，两人于1956年6月结婚。1963年2月11日，在伦敦的寓所自杀。

普拉斯生前只出版过两本著作：诗歌集《巨人及其他诗歌》和自传体长篇小说《钟形罩》。之后的许多诗歌集都由其丈夫休斯整理、编辑而成。

《爱丽尔》是普拉斯的重要代表诗歌集。她在1963年2月11日自杀时，在书桌上留下了一个黑色的弹簧活页夹，里面是四十首诗作的手稿合集，集子最初的起名是《爱丽尔和其他诗》。后来由其丈夫休斯根据该手稿顺序进行了整理和删减，并分别于1965年和1966年出版了英国版和美国版两个不同版本的《爱丽尔》诗集。

本修订版本的《爱丽尔》与之前两个版本完全不同——它收录了完整的四十首诗歌，并严格遵照普拉斯最后留下的手稿顺序来编排，更加原汁原味地呈现作者那时候的思想状态。

包慧怡，诗人，译者，1985年生于上海，都柏林大学中古英语文学博士。著有散文集《翡翠岛编年》，诗集《异教时辰书》《狐狸的窗户》。出版译作《好骨头》《隐者》《崩溃》等九种，曾任爱尔兰都柏林市驻市译者。
