学术含金量很高。对fandom和fan poaching的分析建立在本雅明的机械复制理论、霍尔的表征理论、索绪尔的符号学理论体系之上，对文化研究和传播学研究启发甚广，隔几年还会拿出来再读。

最重要的是明白他与其导师John Fiske以及de Certeau的不同之处，不过后来写到三部曲的后来，他自己也觉得“texual poacher”这个概念不够阐释力度了，转向participatory culture的研究了。

intro，第一章和结论是我喜欢的写法。主题涵盖大众文化、消费者文化和受众研究。切入点是社会过程和实践。media fandom是如何形成的？包含了哪些fan practices？作为大众文化的一类受众群体，fan 阅读、阐释和再生产实践的哪些特征是参与者identification的关键？一个粉丝圈内人描绘与剖析还是很深刻的。个人觉得如果用美国大众文化的社会、政治历史背景做开始铺垫可以让人更好地理解粉丝文化的产生与流变。

虽然结语也提了Fandom既可能积极也可能消极，但全书来看还是显得太过乐观，更重要的是并未阐述如何对Fandom进行道德评价。
