弗兰克·奥哈拉(FrankO'Hara,1926-1966)是二战中成长起来的一位美国诗人,早年在哈佛大学读书,1951年定居纽约,在纽约现代艺术博物馆工作并在生前做到了馆长(他和作为保险公司副总裁的史蒂文斯一起,无疑打破了我们关于诗人与经济性事务之间关系的刻板印象),由此结实了当时的一批画家,跟第二代抽象表现主义画家集团联系密切。1966年他年仅四十岁因车祸——一种现代的、完全非诗性的方式去世。
然而奥哈拉达到了他那个时代把非诗性的材料引入诗歌写作的巅峰,在文学史上他扩充了一个当时还算模糊但在他之后大行其道的传统:occasional poem(应景诗)。他的语调是即兴性的,也正是这种即兴性和对日常生活的快速记录,他在某种程度上确立了自己诗歌的独特地位。他的许多诗歌都是对日常生活的抓拍,像是绘画的草图,海伦•文德勒尝试把它命名为“口语电影诗”。
