Moreover, China's record of popular upheaval stretches back well beyond this century, indeed all the way back to the third century B.C. By bringing together studies of protest that span the Imperial, Republic, and Communist eras, this book introduces Chinese patterns and provides a forum to consider ways in which contentious politics in China might serve to reinforce, refine or reshape theories derived from Western cases.

我剛剛開始讀的時候覺得還挺有新意，看著看著就覺得作者把革命當成瞭一個框，不管見著啥事情就往裏麵套。將中國今天的各種社會抗爭理解為公民意識覺醒或權力意識的覺醒可能確實有不恰當的地方，可是統統歸到革命頭上去，難道就恰當瞭嗎？

it occurred to me that eventually someone will win at the expense of someone's sacrifice, willingly or corecively. To remedy and to provide alternatives for voicing disagremeent, or else. Suppression is never a good way out.
