The book demonstrates various developments within the four countries with regard to different voter appeal of parties, patterns of voter representation, and dispositions to join other parties in legislative or executive alliances. 虽然是历史研究，虽然是case study, 虽然是分类研究，虽然写的类似教科书，但是依旧推荐读一读。尤其是那3个分类很有意思bureaucratic-authoritarian, national-accomodative, patrimonial。而且按照这个类别，很早的就预期了捷克，波兰，匈牙利之间的民主化以及政党发展的不同路径和状况

读前三分之一的理论部分。写的比较早了，但对政党模式的三分法极有启发性，只是这些概念的定义尚不严谨，需要找更有信服力的指标，增强效度。
