Contemporary journalism training incorporates a wide range of reporting methods; however, with the rapid changes now influencing journalistic practice, the need for a new approach is apparent. Recognizing and responding to that need, editor Sharon Hartin Iorio has developed this volume illustrating how qualitative methods can be used to augment the practice of traditional journalism. This work provides journalists with the empirical tools they need to operate in the current reporting climate. It offers ways in which news coverage is expanded and enhanced through the use of qualitative methods developed in the social sciences. The volume contributors demonstrate how valid , reliable qualitative procedures can be used to increase coverage and offer new insights.
