雖然是寫日本，導論部分對什麼是現代的探討，對東方，西方，現代，傳統之間糾結關係的思考，對中國以及其他非西方國傢都是適用的。能不拽抽象的大詞把這些問題說清楚，很瞭不起。

內容非常introductory又引人思考。就寫作上而言，真是模範開頭，中間嚴格地控製節奏，再加上模範結尾。大傢都說開頭重要，但是這麼好的結尾好久沒看到過瞭。There is a question the author leads from the beginning to the end.
