Fine在本书中猛批Baron-Cohen的the essential difference（也批了Brizendine的the female brain），Baron-Cohen对Fine在本书中质疑他研究进行了回应（https://thepsychologist.bps.org.uk/volume-23/edition-11/book-reviews），于是Fine对Baron-Cohen的回应又进行了回应（http://www.cordeliafine.com/Fine_Response_Psychologist_December_2010.pdf），不过就像Fine最后所说，希望对性别差异的讨论能引起这方面科学研究对批评的关注，不是因为这么做是好的政治，而是因为这么做是好的科学。
