People said that he resembled Byron-at least that his head was Byronic; but he was a bearded, tranquil Byron, who might live on a thousand years without growing old. Certainly an Englishman, it was more doubtful whether Phileas Fogg was a Londoner. He was never seen on 'Change, nor at the Bank, nor in the counting-rooms of the "City"; no ships ever came into London docks of which he was the owner; he had no public employment; he had never been entered at any of the Inns of Court, either at the Temple, or Lincoln's Inn, or Gray's Inn; nor had his voice ever resounded in the Court of Chancery, or in the Exchequer, or the Queen's Bench, or the Ecclesiastical Courts. He certainly was not a manufacturer; nor was he a merchant or a gentleman farmer. 阅读工具：IPAD-IBOOKS；大号字；总共421页，查了75个单词。是我看完的第一本超过一百页的原著没有特别认真读，故事梗概基本理清，没有严格按照2页查一个单词去看，大多时候只要不影响理解都不查单词。尽管有大量地名不清楚。男主是个严格按规律生活的单身、内向、不苟言笑、特别有条理的英国中产阶级。参加了一个俱乐部，每天在俱乐部吃饭、阅读、打牌。俱乐部成员主要有一些银行家、企业家组成。男主和俱乐部的人打赌80天可以环游世界。男主带着随从开始了旅程，旅途中在印度上演英雄救美解救了印度美女，后来带到伦敦成为他的老婆；在日本解救了沦为小丑的随从；在美国与打劫火车的印第安土著枪战，解救被俘虏的随从和其它乘客；从美国抢了一艘船自己开到利物浦。从利物浦包火车到伦敦。。。

中学的时候看过中文版的《海底两万里》，这本around the world in 80 days也是凡尔纳三部曲之一，蛮有意思。19世纪的法国人就那么博学了，了解世界各地的好多事情。有时间看下最后一本《气球上的五星期》
